Where Are the Creative Minds

Since the year 1943 there have been a total of 10 Batman movies produced in this country plus 3 animated shorts and a Batman TV series that ran for a few years and the reruns are on TV today.
There are scores of superheroes, but as my son, Mark, pointed out to me Batman doesn't possess any of the expected super powers that we usually see in these characters.  He is a wealthy man that constructs tools and equipment that enables him to save his city.  Don't you wonder why he doesn't do major worldwide actions to save whole tribes from genocide or a city from being bombed?

I'm not complaining about Batman.  I'm going to see the newest installment this Saturday!  I'm a fan, but I just wonder why Batman more than any other.  After all, Superman has powers beyond human understanding but only has 5 movies under his belt although he did have a much longer run on television.

So far there have been 4 Spiderman movies, so again, why Batman?  I truly have no idea. Unless, we have to go back to the fact that Batman is a normally healthy human without mutant or alien powers.  Does this make him more believable to the average movie goer?  I wonder.  Does the average person think that a Batman-like person could really happen in our time?  And, if we did have a real human Batman-like person where would he call home?  London?  Berlin?  Rome?  Do we, as Americans, think that he will automatically be in Chicago or New York City?  Of course, Gotham is meant to be NYC.  Prior to Batman's intro in 1939, NYC was nicknamed Gotham City.

Somehow, I believe that the appeal of superheroes is not only a sign of hope but a sign of inspiration and the desire for someone, somewhere, to come forward and do the right thing at any cost.  Maybe we think that sometime, at some point. someone will step up to the plate and save the day.  Is that the reason we got stuck with the person sitting in the oval office?  We, as a people, bought the sales pitch?

Father in Heaven we love you for your steadfastness and for your need of us as we need you. We ask for your blessing and mercy and pray for your guidance in our lives.   Amen.
