Luke 12:25-26 - "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[b]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?"
While Christ is explaining to his disciples that the power lies in the Father and only through His kingdom can our anxiety be lifted. Through our lives we encounter challenges of varying magnitudes and each one adds to our knowledge and spiritual bank accounts. We are able to take that experience and continue to formulate our individual understanding of the safety that is found in God's shelter. Each of us has our own set of experiences that are unlike anyone elses, so it follows that our own formulation will be unique to just ourselves.
As I catch myself worrying about my husband's health and how we will manage and how I will care for him, I know that the above Bible verse encourages me to let go of the worry and to gain control, even if the control seems just a little shakey. The freedom to seek the better path has been given to all of us and like these wild mustangs we will turn from any threats to our shelter.
To worry is to disturb your own peace of mind. Our calm, our peace of mind, helps us to know our place on the pathway of life and to know the direction we are taking as well as the pace we are maintaining. I guess this all melds into several philosophies that include so many lines finding that peace. Does the fact that there may be other ways to find peace mean that God is being denied? Absolutely not. God speaks to us in various ways and whether it's through nature, family, music, rest, a loving embrace, solitude, or whatever helps us to find that sense of safety we know that only through His love will these tools succeed.
May we all find the peace that God offers us and may our worries be few and seldom.
